BVU DIGITAL MEDIA CAPSTONE:
COVID-19 AND THE LEGAL SYSTEM
For my senior capstone project, I wanted to take a look at how the legal system in rural Iowa was being affected by COVID-19 in a longform audio piece. I was in the middle of reporting when I got stuck at home in Las Vegas, after BVU went online after spring break. However, this provided the perfect opportunity to broaden the scope of the story, and compare how the justice systems in rural Iowa and densely populated Clark County were handling the effects of the pandemic.
COLLABORATION WITH THE STORM LAKE TIMES:
PACKERS PRESS ON
In an effort to boost community engagement and their digital profile, The Storm Lake Times–winner of the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing–worked with BVU students to create a podcast series in in the Spring of 2020. I co-wrote, narrated, and produced this story, Packers Press On, about how Storm Lake's meat packing employees were affected by COVID-19.

As the News Director at KBVU, Buena Vista University's campus radio station, I was responsible for writing, producing, and anchoring top of the hour news breaks.
Working with my partner Isabel Hass, I wrote and performed the voiceover, and edited a majority of
this short audio story, titled Uncovering Fake News.
I performed the voiceover for this award winning journalistic podcast, KBVU's Iowa Watch Midterm Election story.
PODCAST PRODUCING
I produce Sample Excavator, a podcast written and hosted by my partner Angelo Robledo that takes a deep dive into this history of music samples.
